Kotomi Kano (鹿野 琴美 Kano Kotomi) is one of the supporting characters of the Seishun Buta Yarou wa Bunny Girl Senpai no Yume wo Minai series. She is a childhood friend of Kaede Azusagawa.

Appearance[]

Kotomi is a young girl with long brown hair kept in two tails, brown eyes and dark brown glasses.

Background[]

Kotomi is known not only by Kaede but also her brother Sakuta Azusagawa - the Kano and Azusagawa families were once neighbors in the same apartment building. Prior to her dissociative memory loss, Kaede would refer to Kotomi as "Komi-chan".

Plot[]

After recognizing Sakuta through a blurred-out image of him in a magazine, Kotomi finds out where Sakuta goes to school, and one day waits for him outside the school gate. They go to a café to continue the conversation, and there, Kotomi reveals what happened to those who bullied Kaede after she stopped going to school. Kotomi also asks if she could visit Kaede, to which Sakuta hesitates.

About a month later, Kotomi encounters Kaede again by chance at the beach. Kaede was with her brother, as well as Mai Sakurajima and Nodoka Toyohama; however, she doesn't recognize Kotomi. Before they leave the beach, Kotomi parts with a book she once borrowed from Kaede. Back home, when Sakuta gives Kaede the book to read, she finds a note inside which was written by Kotomi, and passes out after reading it.

In Rascal Does Not Dream of a Sister Venturing Out, Kotomi meets up with the pre-dissociation Kaede for the first time after the latter had regained her memories. Kaede is eager to show Kotomi the open school that she was introduced to, and Kotomi expresses admiration for Kaede's newfound independence.

In the alternate reality that Sakuta was transported to in Rascal Does Not Dream of Knapsack Kid, it is Kotomi who mentions that Sakuta helped Kaede get over the bullying she had suffered.

Etymology[]

  • The name Kotomi means "Japanese harp" (琴) (koto) and "beautiful" (美) (mi).
  • Kotomi's surname Kano means "deer, venison" (鹿) (ka) and "field, wilderness" (野) (no).
