The 7th in the series to step into a new future!
Story Notes[]
- On the morning after Mai Sakurajima's death, Rio and Yuuma visit Sakuta at his home. Rio offers him refuge at her own place.
- Three days later, Mai's funeral takes place and is broadcasted on all television channels. Sakuta flees Rio's house and wanders aimlessly before finding the beach and screaming for Mai in despair.
- Shoko Makinohara appears before him again, this time a different Shoko from the future who survived because Mai was the donor of her heart.
- Shoko sneaks Sakuta into the nurse's office of his school. After some conversation, Sakuta falls asleep, and wakes up on Christmas Eve just after noon.
- Noticing that he is invisible, Sakuta finds a mascot bunny outfit from a school cupboard and wears it in order to attract attention from someone who can see him. The first one to do so is Tomoe Koga, who tells Sakuta of a dream she had.
- Tomoe is instructed to find "Sakuta" at the hospital. Once found, Sakuta calls Tomoe from a payphone and asks her to pass the phone to the past version of himself.
- Sakuta fails to convince the past version of himself to not take his life, so he instead calls to meet Nodoka Toyohama, who has the contact details of Mai's agent. Mai's agent escorts Nodoka and Sakuta to where Mai currently is on set.
- Mai has a few moments with Sakuta alone. Sakuta convinces Mai not to save the Sakuta of her time, and leave it to him instead.
- Sakuta meets with the initial future version of Shoko at the specified meeting point. He then puts the mascot outfit back on and saves the past version of himself from being hit by a van. This past version of Sakuta returns home, where Mai waits for him outside.
- On December 26, Mai and Sakuta make some snowmen from the snowed-up school yard, and bring one of them over to Shoko's ward at hospital. Sakuta notices that the future plans sheet that Shoko had written on had its extra lines erased.
- Sakuta's father briefly encounters Mai while sending Kaede back to Sakuta's apartment.
- On December 29, Mai makes dinner for Sakuta, Kaede and Nodoka. Nodoka lets the others know of a dream she had in which Mai was run over.
- On New Year's Eve, Sakuta is informed of Shoko's condition worsening. Sakuta and Mai go to visit Shoko one final time. While Mai waits at the ward, Sakuta is able to enter the intensive care unit to talk to Shoko directly.
- Shoko, fully aware that she is in a future, promises to rewrite the past to a version in which she and Sakuta never met.
- The future is rewritten, and on January 6, after his shift at work, Sakuta goes with Mai to the New Years' shrine visit.
- They return to the familiar beach afterwards and talk about one of Mai's earliest film roles. Just then, Sakuta spots a healthy Shoko wading in the water while watched by her parents. He calls out, and Shoko responds having also remembered.
